POSITIONED FOR THE FUTURE
Automation is a generic term. It does not provide any information on what the machine is really doing on its own. Automation for us is not just the control of pressure, flow, or temperature. We have introduced a new concept, “Adaptive Automation”, to describe a new hardware/software system capable of modifying the process cycle as required by the operator. This new automation literally changes the way the system will produce the extract, something entirely different from simply controlling pressure and temperature.
UNMATCHED POWER & CONTROL
Take the reigns yourself with the most powerful & advanced extraction systems in the known universe. Paired with the cleanest & most efficient solvent, CO2. allows for the broadest product range in the industry.
Configurations
This machine is composed of two extraction vessels, three separation vessels, a separated chiller, and a separated heater. The system comes with one pump for CO2 and can be configured with another pump for a co-solvent. It can reach max pressure (Pmax) of 350 bar and max temperature (Tmax) of 85 °C. There are two pressure set-points: the first one is for extraction vessels and the second one for separation vessels.
There are 5 pressure gauges and voltage can be chosen on request.
Carbon dioxide is continually recycled with a closed circuit for fluid recirculation. The system has PLC on board and is connected to the internet by an Ethernet network connection. It is fully automatic and is equipped with a touchscreen.
The system is PED/CE certified and ASME/UL certified.
Included with the system
All supercritical CO2 systems need some ancillary equipment to work. We provide all the equipment necessary to operate systems with CO2 in the supercritical state at no additional cost to the customer. All the equipment listed below is included.
Systems operating with supercritical CO2 need a chiller to liquefy the gaseous CO2 during the recirculation process or to condense some aqueous compounds in the cooled separator or cold trap. The chiller also keeps the liquid CO2 in thermodynamic equilibrium inside the working tank (accumulator), ensuring the continuous operation of the machinery 24/7. Finally, through a special exchanger, it allows the diaphragm metering pump to avoid cavitation and relative loss of efficiency. The system will switch on/off automatically the chiller. The chiller is included in the price for all Lab and Production series systems.
- Voltage/Frequency – 3 Ph 460/60 V/Hz or 400/50 V/Hz
- Installed Power – 8.98/14 kW/A
- Size (WxHxD) – 2×4.2×4.6 feet (60x130x140 cm)
Systems operating with supercritical CO2 need a boiler (or heater) to produce hot water, necessary to transform liquid CO2 into supercritical CO2. In addition, the boiler, producing hot water at a given temperature, will allow you to set the process parameters of the extractors, the fractionation tower and the gravimetric and cylindrical separators. It is also essential to power the evaporators exchangers which, positioned after the pressure control valves, recover the heat loss caused by the Joule-Thomson effect. The boiler is included in the price for all Lab and Production series systems.
- Voltage/Frequency – 3 Ph 460/60 V/Hz or 400/50 V/Hz
- Installed Power – 12.7/19.9 kW/A
- Size – 1×1.8×2.4 feet (30x55x75 cm)
- Water Connection In/Out – 1¼”x1″ M
There are two pharma-grade diaphragm dosing pumps:
- The most important is the CO2 pump, the carbon dioxide is the principal solvent for the extraction of apolar chemical compounds.
- The secondary pump is used for the release of polar or medium apolar co-solvents during the process – useful for the extraction of chemical compounds with different degrees of polarity.
At the condition of max-pressure, these pumps can ensure:
- CO2 Flow: 200 kg/h
- Co-Solvent Flow: 20 L/h
The extraction process is based on small variations of solvent’s (CO2) pressure and temperature. These critical operations are ensured by several heat exchangers filled with water, which is heated or cooled by a separated, external chiller and heater.
To be compliant with GMP directives, we supply a stainless steel electrical cabinet. The electrical cabinet is included in the price for all Lab, Production and Industrial series systems.
Systems operating with supercritical CO2 need a cold trap to condense all the micro drops of water carried by the gaseous CO2. In this way, the water extracted from the raw material will not recirculate in the hydraulic circuit. The cold trap is included in the price for all Lab, Production and Industrial series systems.
Systems operating with supercritical CO2 need a canister to guarantee the absence of cross contamination and cleanness of the extractor. GMP regulation requires baskets in which to put the raw material and seal it before inserting it into the extractor. To remove the extractor lid, unloading and reloading the basket, we supply an electric hoist that lifts to 250 kg in weight. The hoist is equipped with a wired control with which to control the operation of the hoist. The hoist is included in the price for all Lab and Production series systems.
Systems operating with supercritical CO2 need a Liquid/solid to gas phase separator filter to guarantee that solid parts such as waxes or paraffin or liquid parts such as oil or extract can return to the circulation in the extraction system. Liquid/solid to gas phase separator filter is included in the price for all Lab, Production and Industrial series systems.
Systems operating with supercritical CO2 need a Liquid CO2 level meter to manage the automatic CO2 filling. Knowing exactly the level of liquid CO2 in the working tank is critical because it allows to automate the automatic filling by taking fresh CO2 from the cylinders or from the cryogenic tank. The control takes place continuously from 0 to 100%. Liquid CO2 level meter is included in the price for all Lab, Production and Industrial series systems.

URS VALIDATED
User Requirement Specifications means the functions that a specific device must have to satisfy the needs and requirements of its end user; or, more simply, it is what a device is expected to be able to offer to those who use it, in terms of functionalities. Generally, their specification takes place through the drafting of a specific document (called User Requirement Specifications – URS) which takes place in the validation phase of the machinery itself, therefore before this is actually designed.
